Island Peak climbing from Chhukung is a thrilling and challenging adventure suitable for both seasoned climbers and enthusiastic beginners. The journey typically spans three days, starting from Chhukung, a small settlement in the Everest region, and culminating at the Island Peak summit (6189 meters).
On the first day, climbers trek from Chhukung to the Island Peak Base Camp (5086 meters), navigating through rocky trails and glacial moraines deposited by the Lhotse Glacier. Upon arrival at the base camp, climbers undergo pre-climb training, learning how to use essential climbing gear such as ice axes, crampons, harnesses, and ascenders. This training is designed to boost confidence and enhance climbing techniques, although prior experience is not mandatory.
The next day involves an early morning ascent to the summit. The climb includes navigating steep inclines, icy glaciers, and a 45-50° slope using fixed ropes, culminating in breathtaking views of Everest, Lhotse, Makalu, and other towering Himalayan peaks. After summiting, climbers descend back to the base camp and then return to Chhukung the following day.
This expedition offers an unforgettable high-altitude mountaineering experience, with the added thrill of challenging terrain and the reward of stunning panoramic views
