Langtang valley trek is one of the most beautiful short trek in Nepal, located north of Kathmandu in the Langtang National Park. This trek is also rated as top 3 most popular trek after Everest base camp trek and Annapurna circuit trek. Langtang valley trek can be completed in a 7 to 8 days. Langtang valley trek is popular for exploring Tamang culture, Langtang valley trail: which is in the shadow of Langtang Himalayan range covered with bamboo forest rhododendron and tons of waterfalls and  Kayingen Gompa: the final destination during the trek to langtang valley it also offers another short hike to Teserko Ri  or the kyanjin Ri depending upon the challenge and difficulty trekkers can afford.

 

Where is Langtang Valley?

The Langtang Valley is located in the north-central region of Nepal, bordering Tibet. Part of the Langtang National Park, the valley is known for its diverse flora and fauna, traditional Tamang villages, and panoramic views of snow-capped peaks such as Langtang Lirung, Gangchenpo, and Dorje Lakpa.

 

Which is beautiful and worth trekking between Tsergo ri and Kyanjin ri?

Obviously, Tsergo ri has the most Spectacular view of mountains and also the trial is less crowded then the kyanjin ri. The altitude of Tsergo ri is approx 5,033 m higher than of the kyanjin ri which is approx 4,773 m in terms of difficulty and challenge climbing Tsergo ri needs little more daring to reach out.

Kyanjin ri is more popular and easily accessible. Kyanjin ri trek can be completed in about 6-7 hours. Climbing kyanjin ri rewards you of the vivid view of the Himalayan range with less physical challenge.

To trek in the Langtang Valley, you need:

1. Langtang National Park Entry Permit (approx. NPR 3,000 for foreigners).

2. Trekker’s Information Management System (TIMS) Card (approx. NPR 1,000 per person).

 

Detailed Itinerary

Day 1:

Drive to Syabru Besi (1,503 m) from Kathmandu – 7 to 9 hours. Overnight at a Guesthouse

  • Distance: 122 km / 75 miles

Commence the trek with a scenic bus journey from Kathmandu to Syabrubesi. Enjoy the views along the Trisuli River and witness the welcoming sight of the mountains. The road may get bumpy as you reach Dhunche and continue to Syabrubesi, where you'll stay overnight in preparation for the trek.

Day 2:

Trek to Lama Hotel (2,500 m) from Syabru Besi – 6-7 hours. Overnight at a Guesthouse

Embark on a trek through a beautiful forest backdrop with Langtang Lirung in view. Pass Ghora Tabela, enter green meadows, and witness the Langtang Range on both sides of the valley. Continue through temporary settlements, reaching Mundu for a comfortable overnight stay.

Day 3:

Trek to Langtang village (3,430 m) from Lama Hotel – 6 -7hours. Overnight at a Guesthouse

  • Trek Distance: 14.7 km / 8 miles

Pass through the forest, reaching Ghoretabele, a horse stable. Trek through picturesque landscapes to reach Langtang Village, rebuilt after the 2015 earthquake. Explore the thriving village with community amenities, schools, markets, and monasteries.

Day 4:

Trek to Kyanjin Gompa (3,830 m) from Langtang village – 4 to 5 hours. Overnight at a Guesthouse

  • Trek Distance: 5.7 km / 3.5 miles

Experience a shorter trek with Buddhist artifacts, watermills, and yak pastures along the way. Reach Kyanjin Gompa by lunchtime, surrounded by spirituality and stunning mountain views. Optionally hike towards Langshisha Kharka to enhance your experience.

Day 5:

Acclimatization and Exploration Day at Kyanjin Gompa. Overnight at a Guesthouse

  • Activity: Chyarku ri (5000 mn) optional to kyanjin ri (4400 m)

Embark on an exciting but challenging hike to Tserko Ri (5,000m / 16,404 ft). Enjoy breathtaking views of over 20 peaks, the Langtang Valley, and frozen lakes. Return to Kyanjin Gompa for a second night and a well-deserved dinner.

Trek Back to Lama Hotel (2,500 m) from Kyanjin Gompa – 6-7 hours. Overnight at a Guesthouse

Retrace your steps to Lama Hotel, crossing streams and hiking through forests. Relax after the challenging trek of the previous day and stay overnight at Lama Hotel.

Trek to Syabru Besi (1,503 m) from Lama Hotel – 4-5 hours. Overnight at a Guesthouse

On the final trekking day, choose between two routes back to Syabrubesi. Retrace the outbound route through the forest and villages or take a shorter but steeper route with stunning views of the Langtang Valley. Overnight in Syabrubesi.

Drive Back to Kathmandu from Syabru Besi – 7 to 9 hours. Overnight at a Hotel

Teahouses are the most common form of accommodation along the Langtang Valley Trek. These are small, family-run lodges that provide basic yet comfortable facilities. Most teahouses offer:

Basic amenities like blankets and pillows (though carrying a sleeping bag is recommended).

The Langtang Valley Trek is one of the most budget-friendly treks in Nepal, offering incredible value for every dollar spent. With costs significantly lower than other popular treks like Everest or Annapurna, you can experience the majesty of the Himalayas without compromising on quality or experience.

Langtang Permit Costs and Paperwork

To trek in the Langtang region, you’ll need two permits: the TIMS Card (Trekkers’ Information Management System) and the Langtang National Park Entry Permit. The TIMS Card costs 10 per person if you’re traveling with a guide or 10 per person if you’re traveling with a guide or 20 per person if you’re trekking independently. Transportation Cost for Langtang Trek

The trek begins in Syabrubesi, which is accessible by road from Kathmandu. A local bus costs 10−15 per person (one way), while a private jeep costs 200-250 (one way), which can be shared among 4-6 people. Round-trip transportation costs range from 20−30 per person by bus or 50−60 per person by shared jeep.

How Do You Get the Money—Cash or Card?

While teahouses and shops in the Langtang region accept cash (Nepalese Rupees), credit/debit cards are not widely accepted. It’s essential to carry enough cash for the entire trek, including permits, meals, accommodation, and tips. Guide assigned from Master Himalaya will take care of every services that is included in the itinerary. ATMs are available in Kathmandu, but not in the trekking region. Plan to withdraw cash before starting your trek.
