Flight to Lukla - A Flight Guide to Everest Base Camp

After 40-45 minutes fly from Kathmandu, we land on the world’s most dangerous airport. Yes, it is known as the world’s most dangerous airport because of its location, short runway, and mountain area. There are 3 major companies that provide the flight to Lukla from Kathmandu- Tara Air, Summit Airline, and Sita Airline. You can also book a chopper for that but it is a little bit expensive.

Availability

Internet Connectivity: Wi-Fi is available for $3 to $5 an hour. Mobile charging costs about $1.50 an hour. Amenities: Hot water/ Hot Shower, laundry, phone calls, etc. will cost between $1 and $3.Extra Tea and Coffee will charge between $ 2 to $5.

Room Type: Rooms with attached Bathrooms are available.Trekking Equipment: One can hire dufflel and bags and sleeping bags which will cost around $5 to $7. But some travel agencies will provide a duffle bag & sleeping bags it will be included in the cost. At Lukla, you can get better facilities compared to the Lobuche, Dingboche, and Ghoreshep.

Lukla To Phakding

After landing at Lukla, we start trekking to Phakding. It takes 3-4 hours to reach phakding and it is a very easy trek because we go down to phakding. The altitude of phakding is 2400m where the altitude of Lukla is 2600m. On the day first, we go down to 200m which is so easy. On the way to Phakding from Lukla, you see the amazing greenery and view of villages of the Everest Region. There are so many lodges in Phakding. So try to make your first stay of this beautiful Everest base camp trek at Phakding.

Phakding to Namche Bazar

On day 2nd, the real trek start. This day, we need to climb up which is a little bit difficult. You will see lots of footbridges on this way to Namche Bazar. It will take 7 to 8 hours to reach Namche Bazar depends on your speed and stamina. Namache Bazar is the main and biggest city/village of the Everest Region.

You can shop anything here like trekking equipment, medicines, food, clothes, etc. if you forget to bring from Kathmandu. All products are a little bit expensive here compare to Lukla and Kathmandu. Because they need to order all products from Kathmandu by flight.

Acclimatization at Namche Bazaar

There are lots of trekkers who face altitude sickness while trekking to Everest base camp and Kala pather. So it is better to stay for acclimatization after every 1000m treks. On this day, you can do shopping from Namche Bazar, visit the monastery, or do little bit trekking to Everest View Hotel, from where you can see a glimpse of Mount Everest.

After the acclimatization at Namche Bazar, we start trek to Tengboche. It takes 5 to 6 hours to reach Tengboche from Namache bazaar. You don’t need to climb up so much. The way to Tengboche is very beautiful. You will see lots of flowers on the way. As you already entered in Sagarmatha National Park, maybe you see some wildlife animals also which are very rare. After reaching Tengboche, You can visit the Tengboche monastery which is the very famous monastery of the Everest region.

Tengboche to Dingboche

On the way to Dingboche from Tengboche, you trek alongside the Imza river. This way is so beautiful and you will see lots of scenic beauty here. It will take 5 to 6 hours to reach Dingboche. On this day, we need to climb only 400m which is good. You can take your lunch at Deboche which is 2 hours before Dingboche.

Rest Day at Dingboche

There are 2 major reasons you have to stop at Dingboche for 1 day. The first reason is acclimatization and another reason is to explore the Khumbu region. If you are not a regular trekker, so your body needs rest also after 2-3 days trek. On this day, you can explore the Dingboche village which is good and scenic, situated on the bank of the Imza river. Another alternative option is if you are fit enough and want to add more adventure you can summit Nangkartshang peak. It is a walkable peak and a great half-day excursion.

Dingboche to Lobuche

It is the 650m climb for Lobuche from Dingboche. The way is good and scenic. You can easily reach Lobuche after 6-7 hours walking from Dingboche. You will see the plain way and rocky way as well.

Lobuche to Everest Base Camp Trek Via Gorakshep

Gorakshep is the very famous destination for the trekker who is doing trekking to Everest Base camp or Kala Pather. It is the point where you will go to both destinations. After the trek of 6 to 7 hours from Lobuche, we reach Gorakshep. After taking lunch at Gorakshep, we start trek to Everest Base Camp. It will take 2 hours to reach Mount Everest Base Camp from Gorakshep which is so beautiful journey because you will see the lots of glaciers and glimpse of Mount Everest on the way. After capturing lots of unforgettable memories at Everest base camp, we moved back to Gorakshep and stay there.

Gorakshep to Kalapatthar

Every trekker prefers to go as early as possible to start trek to Kalapather from Gorakshep for watching an awesome view of Mount Everest. You can start your trek to Kala Patthar in between 3 to 4:00 am in the morning to see the most beautiful sunrise in the Everest region. It will take 2 hours to reach Kalapatthar from Gorakshep and 1 hour to come back.
